Why does my head throb when I stand up?
« on: June 06, 2014, 07:37:19 PM »
Whenever I go from a sitting to standing position, OR if I even strain the slightest bit on the toilet (not really straining, just normal push for movement) or if I hold my breath for a few seconds, WHY does my head throb???? It feels like there's an enormous rush of blood to my head, I have a fleeting mild headache that goes away within a few seconds, and I can feel my pulse VERY hard in my face, head, neck, arms, ect. This is one of the main reasons I think I have a brain tumor.

I had the same symptom for a few months. Like you I thought I had a brain tumor. I went to the neuro and had an MRI, as soon as it came clean, that symptom went away!

Good luck!

I think that might be what it would take for me to feel better. Lol. Even though I have had a clean ct scan. Right now I'm thinking I'm about to have a seizure. Lol.

Muscles tension, shift in blood pressure, vagus nerve stimulation?  Could be anything, but it's just something that happens to people, usually with no reason for concern.

This is ridiculous! Even if I bend over or laugh it happens. This just started within the last few weeks or so. I'd be very surprised it this isn't a brain tumor.

Those sound like orthostatic changes in your blood pressure and when on the toilet it's probably vagal nerve stimulus. Both can give yyou the rush / full feeling in your head. Talk to your GP and have a tilt table test.

Brain tumor? Don't convince yourself it's that...

I agree with people who are saying it's vagus nerve stimulation and changes in blood pressure. When I get anxious, I sometimes feel/see a throbbing on the sides of my head, my Doctor said it wasn't anything to lose sleep over and to stop worrying so much. :P

This happens to me quite often, I am pretty sure it is sinus or maybe low blood pressure from getting up to quickly. I also think dehydration can cause this symptom.

There is no evidence that it is a brain tumor and I bet if you just get up more slowly it will go away and drink more water.
