Abnormal Pap Smear and Colposcopy
« on: June 03, 2014, 02:09:34 PM »
I went for my yearly pap about a month ago and the results came back inconclusive. Because of that my doctor wanted me to get a colposcopy done and take a biopsy of my cervical cells.
I had the colposcopy and biopsy performed yesterday. I should be getting the results back within a week.
But my doctor also mentioned that my cells were at that transitioning point..
Has anyone else been through this?
If so, what will the biopsy say? Will it say that I have full blown cancer?

do you get yearly paps done?

if so you most likely havent made it to full blown cancer. there are 3 or 4 stages of abnormal before cancer.

i had stage 3 dysplasia. a stage before cancer and i was getting colonoscopy's every 3 months. and it just went away on its own no treatment and have had normal paps since. that was 7 years ago

I went thru this in 2000. Tho my results were med-high grade cells so I had the colposcopy. Went on to have the LEEP procedure soon after. Haven't had one problem since, all normal paps and 2 healthy pregnancies. You have nothing to worry about I assure you. Most of the time your body will rid itself of this, most likely your OB will watch and wait. What you can do in the meantime is take care of yourself, take vitamins and rest.

About 13 years ago, I had "abnormal" or "atypical" pap results.  The doctor told me to come back in a few months for another Pap.  I think this went on for about about 6 months before they sent me to a gyn who did a colposcopy.

My memory is failing at this point but there was definitely dysplasia so the decision at the time was to have a LEEP.  I've had normal PAPs ever since and three children!  It wasn't cancer but the cells were precancerous.  The doctors were never worried though, just making sure.

Thanks for the advice, ladies!
I always get regular pap's and this is my first abnormal result pap smear.
I have never been through any of this before, so it worries me a lot!
Glad to know that all of your experiences have turned out good with this.

I had an abnormal pap and tested positive for HPV.

Had a colposcopy and biopsy; both were totally fine.  My last pap was normal (though I'm way past due for one at this point, oops.)
