Good and bad
« on: June 02, 2014, 06:56:11 PM »
The good is some of my symptoms have faded - my stiff hands feel much better and my general fatigue is better too.  But my shoulder stiffness (especially right shoulder) just won't heal.  I don't think it's weak, but feels stiff (no cramping).  Still getting sporadic muscle twitches jumping from one area to another.  Hoping my shoulder stiffness is anxiety related and not ALS or muscle weakness!  No visible atrophy thank God but seems too stiff!  Any advice?

This is anxiety, no question. This is one of the most common symptoms of anxiety; even people who don't have chronic anxiety have it when they get tense. I have it probably 85% of the time. Shoulders are a very common place for people to carry tension when they get anxious, and the result of all that tension is muscle stiffness, weakness, pain, and/or twitches/tremors (and sometimes pinched nerves too). If you can get someone to massage it that would be great. Getting a professional massage would be even better. Giving it some heat might help too. Try doing some simple warm-up relaxation exercises to loosen it up. And of course, try to get a handle on the anxiety that is causing it as well.

Look at my posts, ShawnW's and Pan's posts, Niceguy. They might help.

I hope it's just anxiety tension - it's been lingering for at least 4 months.  2 visits to neuro - no clinical signs of als which is nice, but have to wait to September for emg, still nervous of shoulder and all the twitching all over.
