Waiting on Pap smear results
« on: June 01, 2014, 08:28:04 PM »
I went & finally had my annual Friday. It had been close to 3 yrs since my last bc of fear, but I sucked it up & got it done.

Dr. did a breast check & lymph node check, the pap, check for cysts on my ovaries. He said "Well. I can't find a thing wrong with you." which was good.

& now I have to wait for the results of the Pap smear. What if they call? What if the tests are abnormal? They mail out a letter within 2 wks if all is normal....if not, they call.

Why is this freaking me out??

It is freaking you out because you are scared of it coming back with bad news. If it has been a few days you should try calling and ask if the results are normal. Tell them it is driving you crazy. I am sure you're going to be fine though :)

Relax, it'll be fine.

I've had an abnormal pap.  It came back positive for HPV.  I went back for a biopsy and colposcopy for safety's sake, and got retested in six months.  It had gone back to normal.

If you get regular paps (and every 3 years is pretty much acceptable to a certain age) and/or are pre-menopausal this is literally the worst possible outcome you could be facing.

Even if it comes back abnormal the most common cause of that is a problem with the test and you'll have to go back for another one.  Which is no fun for someone with anxiety but not worrisome.

Seriously, of all the test results in the world, this is one that doesn't need to cause anxiety, I have learned :)
