I think I'm going crazy or something
« on: May 29, 2008, 12:55:37 PM »
Hey everybody.

For the past five days I have hit rock bottom, and I don't understand why. It started when I was at work and I got this aura across my vision. The best way I can describe it is when some takes your picture with the flash on and you have imprint on your retina for several seconds. It lasted 15 minutes to 20 minutes at the most and it went away, I was freaking out thinking I was going blind. Then the next day, around the sometime I started to feel strange. I could concentrate, could not control my thoughts, I constantly make mistakes like I had to re-read words because I would read them as other words. Or when I had to write stuff down I had a hard time doing it cause both my hands and forearms felt uncoordinated although if i concentrated more I could write some what normal.

This lasted for a while that night, and I felt out of it, almost like i was in a different place. I went to bed and as I was laying down falling asleep I would start to dream but then wake, however the dream was still playing in my head. What ever I was dreaming I thought that was what actually was happening. I would wake suddenly look around my room and even though I knew where I was, I didn't feel like knew where I was. Eventually I went to sleep and woke and felt the same, as soon as i woke up. The feeling of apprehension, I felt anxious and scared but I honestly didn't know what was causing it, no conscious thought that I can really remember.

Throughout the day it slowly went away and I felt almost my normal GAD self, but there had been a pressure around my forehead for about 2 days now and my stomach feels nauseous and I have heart flutters.

This cycle has been going on for about 5 days now I have never been through something like this in my two years of GAD or at least I can't seem to remember If I have ever been through this. I would really like some advice or perhaps maybe some of you know what I'm talking about it. It seems the things that bother us the most are the things that can't be described.

Thank You.

Hi Orbie,

I can't totally relate but I think I know what you are talking about. For the past 2 weeks I have had some of the worst most bizarre anxiety symptoms to date. Mostly having to do with sensations in my head. I had a strange pressure in my head for several days, even kinda have it right now, I have woken from sleep thinking I was still dreaming and feeling absolutely crazy like I had lost my mind and was not in my body, I spent the whole next day feeling very detached and strange. I almost daily feel dizzy or foggy when I am walking around. Of course I have been to the doc and had more tests in the past 2 weeks than some people have their whole lives and I AM FINE! My suggestion as I think it's wise for anyone experiencing new or bothersome symptoms, go to the doctor first and get checked out, and here's the thing, they are trying to find something wrong with you so they will, even if it's just anxiety, but anxiety is a diagnosis. Maybe not the one we expected to hear, maybe we were thinking along the lines of brain tumor, and the doc just says no, GAD. Take it as that (using my own advice here). If he offers you medication and you are not totally against it, take it, it does help in a few weeks and those weird head feelings and auras could be a thing of the past. Or at least when they happen you won't jump to illogical conclusions. Hang in there, I am sure you are fine, as I myself have been through the weird stuff this week and am still here to talk to you about it.  :action-smiley-065:

What's really funny is that I often can't remember if I've had a symptom or not.  It's like everything feels new and scary.  I'll bet that in my life I have felt many of the sensations I get multiple times, but coupled differently makes them seem new and really freaky.  Whether new or old, you are not alone.  I have good days/weeks and bad days/weeks.  Sometimes I'm waiting to call 911, and other days I'm ready to go to dinner and dance.  GAD is the most inconvenient thing I've ever dealt with.  I always tell my psychologist that the hardest part is differentiating real life and crazy me.  When I started reading different posts tonight I had a tingling in my arm.  I was sure it was a heart attack.  You are the second person I've responded to and now I feel fine.  What is that?  Just goes to show you that we will all get threw this.  It takes time and sometimes a little money, but we will prevail.  We are amazing people.  You know what always seems to help me?  Doing something out of the ordinary.  Like going roller skating or off a diving board.  I know it sounds extreme, but going back to childhood seems to help.  I have a 10 month old baby and today we were looking at grass.  Totally opened up my eyes all over again.  Do something fun for you!  You need it and deserve it

hi orbie,

i have GAD for like 8 years now and i felt new weird sensations too. recently i thought i was having aneurysm due to the fact i had this pain at my left eye and i get localized headaches, nauseas when i wake up and blind spots everyday. these sensations started before i started becoming anxious again. i thought before that sensations only happens before you felt anxious but in some case it isn't. hang on there, you are not alone!

There is a saying.  If you think you are going crazy, you aren't.  Crazy people don't think about it, it just happens.  It's all anxiety.

Hi Orbie

I had the same thing this morning on my way to work, the sun was in my eyes for a moment and then when I closed them I had a bright spot in each eye, like you said "as if you had an imprint on your retina" ... it last about 5 mins and slowly faded away. Moments before it happened I was thinking how good I felt that morning and how please I was that I had no strange symtoms ....then bang I have a new one to worry about.  :dazed:

Take care
