anxiety books worth a read?
« on: May 30, 2014, 05:05:08 PM »
i like reading so i was thinking of picking up a book on anxiety but i dont know if its worth the time because i have the internet and this forum if i ever need information on it. also i would rather read about it from people that are actually going through the same thing. i have read a while back how just reading self help books or whatever, makes people feel better, i dont know if thats true though. there are some books in my local library about anxiety but they dont look too interesting and so ill probably have to buy the book from barnes and noble or order it online. do you guys think its worth the time? if so, what do you guys recommend?

I like this thread because we can help each other find great books.

My favorite is THE HAPPINESS TRAP which explores ACT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Another interesting book is more a memoir 10% HAPPIER.  It's by the Nightline news anchor who had panic attacks on tv some years back.
It explores his personal journey through  eastern philosophy, meds and drugs, etc.  It's humorous too.

Hope and Help for your nerves.  by Claire Weekes.  Bought this yesterday, I could feel change beginning to happen.  It's not an overnight cure, but it's going to help

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.  - AnxietyZone member Sixpack

The only book that has helped me is - "You Can Heal Your Life" by Louise Hay.
It was life-changing, for me.

Any of the Claire Weekes books will be good.  I always recommend Claire Weekes and Paul David's At Last a Life.  Both of those for the most part compliment each other and reinforce the most important concepts in recovery.
