MRIs today. Terrified.
« on: May 29, 2014, 10:38:42 AM »
I feel like this is like the last day or my life. After this I will be diagnosed. After 7-8 months of sweating at night I finally begged and pleaded enough to see a specialist then begged and pleaded with her to get these MRIs. She does not think they are medically needed, but she let me get them anyway. They had to fight my insurance 3 weeks to get them covered for me. I'm 18 weeks pregnant, and I want to be happy with that. Instead I'm terrified I'm dying. I'm not lethargic, I haven't lost weight but have slowly gained about 7lbs in the pregnancy so far. My lymph nodes aren't swelling, etc.... I just know that night sweats are a bad sign of cancer. I just know there are tumors in there somewhere. I've had multiple blood tests including tumor marker tests, chest X-ray, mutiple pelvic and abdominal ultrasounds and everything keeps coming back normal. I just know that I have a tumor causing the night sweating though. I'm scared  :( I want to live for my child I already have, and this one I'm pregnant with. My MRIs of my chest and abdomen are at 4 today.

Good luck and I'm confident they will come back normal. Way to many normal results have come already.
Night swears could be totally anxiety and hormonal related. Night sweats alone accompanied by no other symptoms really isn't anything to worry about, especially with all of the normal test results you have already had.

Do not worry!  I've been down this path.  I started getting night sweats about 5 years ago.  Some time around then former NBA star Kareem Abdul Jabaar announced he realized he was sick when he started having intense night sweats which were unusual for someone his age.  Despite the fact that I was decades younger than him (I ignored this little nugget), I ran to a doctor.  Got tested, a second opinion, and I was fine.  They said it was my hormones!  To further prove that, I pretty much get them around my period.  And mine are intense.  I have soaked my sheets and clothes.

Given that you're still having babies, I know you are too young to be in the danger zone of night sweats being signs of something sinister.  Also, you're pregnant so I bet your hormones can be unusual right now.  You will be fine!

I'm sure they won't find anything then hopefully you can relax!   I had a pelvic MRI 6 months ago - I was able to get the results the next day, I hope you get your results quickly!

Update time. Here we go. So I had my MRIs at 4 pm yesterday. Got a call rom my oncologist I was seeing who ordered the tests. She called at 1:30pm today. I about had a heart attack when I saw the phone number. When I picked up the doctor said with a chipper voice," your mris came back perfectly normal! No swollen nodes, no sign of any malignancy or anything! Now stop worrying, enjoy your pregnancy, and you don't need to come back!" I was in shock. I can't believe it! I'm okay? It's so hard to accept! I want to live now! I think now is the time to get into some therapy, now after all this testing cancer has been disproven. I am so happy and thrilled and just wanted you all to know :)

How accurate are MRI's? How good are they compared to Xray?

Im getting one on tuesday and have been scared sh!tless of Lung Cancer and Pancreatic Cancer. Im getting it for chest and back. Also the "specialist" says to comeback to discuss the results(70 DOLLAR COPAY!!!), plus I was charged pretty much for a rwferral thet my stupid GP could've gave me

Will the ppl at the MRI place tell me the results over the phone instead? Im tired of paying doctors who just keep bleeding me dry. Also is the MRI copay expensive?

Thanks in advance and Im glad you're a healthy individual :)

They make an appt in advance to discuss results. Usually a day or two after the MRI. My doctor only called because she had time and she had met with me before. Knew I had a daughter and I'm pregnant with second baby and I was in extreme panic. The MRI place people don't typically tell you your results. They leave it up to the doctor. That's a high copay, but peace of mind? Priceless!!!
I'm not sure if they will charge you a copay. My insurance covered my mris 100%

That is Great news so yes now enjoy life and that beautiful baby on the way!!

Mri's are very accurate and yes very detailed and usually see everything so they are the very best to have done out of the x-rays and ct scans.. etc..

Now if someone is having numerous scans done and nothing shows up then people really do need therapy and maybe some meds to help with the anxiety and panic and Hypochondria .  Learning to except that you are healthy while having anxiety isn't real easy though so that is where therapy helps and meds sometimes.

Congrats on the baby!

@ally Just like you I knew I had a cancerous tumor somewhere in my body. Just like you I also had (shirt drenched) night sweats. Oh and I also had unexplained weightloss and tons of other symptoms (name it I had it). Anyway, here I am years later.  I hope your tests bring you peace. If you need someone to talk to drop me a msg.
