Hello...I was so glad to find this forum.   I've spent the last day reading through the archives and was very surprised to see alot of people out there like me.   I've spent the last few weeks driving myself crazy (googling....which I was also surprised to see is not that abnormal an obsession as I led myself to believe).

I've had very bad experiences with doctors in the past.  I ended up marrying my shrink (!) which ultimately turned in to a nightmare.  He subsequently lost his license to practice (not because of me).  Needless to say, I have a unrealistic fear of doctors and cannot get past the terror.

Anyway....I am now going through what I assume is perimenopause (I'm 48 1/2).  I've always been very regular until the last few months.  It's like my system went haywire.  I skipped a period in January.  Feb. and March were barely there.  Second weeks in April, it started and it doesn't stop.  Slows down, but doesn't stop.

I can't get out of my head.  I'm depressed.  I'm anxious.  I cry.  I can't sleep without waking up in sheer terror.  Anyone out there that has been through this?  Help me please.  I've been to the point where I think I need to go somewhere to get myself 'normal'.  I'm walking the edge here.

Any and all replies will be greatly greatly appreciated.

Welcome and no, you are not alone.  I am 45, just started the peri and I have my moments. My sister who is 48 is going through the EXACT same things that you are.  She just went to her GYN who is giving her a low dose BC pill to regulate her. She had her cycle start in Feb and it wouldn't stop.  She has the depression and the hot flashes and its all normal. Her GYN said that if you are having irregular cycles and it is interferring with your daily routines, then you need something to regulate it.  If you are not a smoker, there is really nothing to worry about with the BC pills.

This will pass, it may take a while but it will pass eventually.  There is a great web site that explains all of this and has a forum also.  Let my mind get back to normal and I will remember it and send it to you.

Thank you Eva.

I have high level anxiety and tend to be obsessive, and of course, I'm googling and seeing all the stuff about endometrial cancer.  I'm making myself sick.

I haven't smoked in a long while, and at this point, I would take anything just to get things back to (semi) normal.

And of course, most of what is wrong with me has to do with the obsessing and looking at things over and over.  I will read things that are reassuring, but will focus on what is not reassuring.  I'm always waiting for bad things to happen.

But thank you for answering me.  I so appreciate it.

I'm 47 rs old today! and past 18 months have been interesting period wise to say the least.  I can skip up to three and half months, I can have normal cycles and periods or I can start dribbling as I call it that will go on daily for up to 6 weeks and ends with the worst flooding imaginable for about 4 days. I never have a clue what is going to happen next.

I was so scared of endometrial cancer that I insisted I see gyny and had a hysteroscopy, biopsy and D&C plus ultrasound of ovaries etc and the ovarian cancer Ca125 blood test and everything was normal!!!  Told it is hormonal and I either put up with it or take hrt or have hysterectomy. As I won't do hrt I just live with it but if I ever become aneamic then its off to have a hysterectomy.

YOur are def not alone but if it continues and it worries you then do what I did - have all the tests for your own piece of mind and then you can decide what to do.
