Worried About My Sister
« on: May 28, 2014, 05:47:05 PM »
First of all, my sister is a Registered Nurse......she has been having issues with her digestion, or should I say bowel movements for awhile now (couple years?).  She sometimes has to get off the phone because she says she is about to have a 'blow-out'.  She once spent a half hour in the restroom at work.

Well, today she told me that this morning she used the restroom at work and had what she thought was a normal bowel movement.  She went back to doing her work, but she felt something strange in her bottom area.  So she went back to the restroom to check; she said her panties were full of blood, and that the blood came from the back not the front (without getting too graphic).

I have begged her to get checked out, but she is not worried in the least.....she said if it persists, she get it checked.  But I think she should go as soon as possible, just incase.  She thinks it is a hem.

To be honest, I have been worried about her since she first told me of her issue a couple years ago......I sure wish she'd listen to me  ::)

Sounds like IBS, and a fissure or hemorrhoid caused by constantly being on the toilet.  Constantly going and wiping can be really irritating.

It does sound like it could be IBS but I would HIGHLY recommend seeing a Gastro ASAP. The history of bowel issues and bleeding is concerning. It could be ulcerative colitis. Frequent diarrhea should always be investigated and accompanied by bleeding almost makes it an urgent situation. How old is she.

She is 45. She is really not concerned at all though....I think she should be evaluated, just to be sure.

Is the blood actually in the stool, or is she just having external bleeding?

At her age I would promptly be checked.
