My stomach is completely numb
« on: May 26, 2014, 03:43:01 AM »
Ever since I saw my chiropractor last Tuesday, I have no more sensation in my stomach. None! No more feelings of hunger or feeling full. I went from having a hypersensitive stomach to having one that doesn't react to anything... what?!

Honestly I was at my wit's end with this today, so I went to the ER and got a brain MRI done... it came back all clear! No MS or Vagus Nerve damage! Seriously? Did they miss something??

I haven't gotten a spinal MRI done, I'm seeing a regular Doc asap on Tuesday. So worried... what could this be? Is it a pinched nerve in my back or has anxiety created some weird numbing sensation in my stomach that doesn't go away?! Anyone??

They won't find anything, because what you're describing is quite literally impossible for any physiological process to cause, short of total paralysis.

Are you sure? I want this to all be in my head... cause it all feels too real... no hunger or any other stomach feelings, just nausea every so often.

Hope it goes away soon.  :(

I still have stomach numbness, in fact it's gotten worse. Anyone? Pretty scared, really wanting this to be all in my head... :(

The only time I've felt something like this was during a panic attack so I'm not of much help, sorry=/

But I'm sure you'll be fine. Just wait until you can do the other tests.

So, just an update: Brain MRI - CLEAR, Spine Xrays - clear, Cervical MRI - clear. Blood tests - clear. Seeing a neurologist in 2 weeks, for whatever that's worth.

The numbness is still bad, it is consistent and doesn't come and go... I seriously want it to be a stupid anxiety symptom, but I just don't know anymore...

If brain and spine are clear it sounds like everything is ruled out BUT anxiety.  I doubt anything in or around your stomach itself could cause it to be numb.

Oh believe me, I want it to just be anxiety! Only thing I can come up with is possible vagus nerve damage from my adjustment, but even my Doctor (who's a DO, he specializes in adjustments), said that it was very very unlikely. Almost impossible.

So I don't know... guess we'll see if the neurologist comes up with anything. If anyone has experienced anything like this before, let me know.

Total paralysis wouldn't even cause this.

I. . . don't even understand the issue, honestly.
I can't feel my stomach -- I thought this was normal?

This is not a sensation that anyone without some sick HA would experience regardless. It's certainly never crossed my mind.

Yes I know. It's a change in feeling, like it feels... weird. I used to have a VERY sensitive stomach 3 weeks ago and now I suddenly don't. I would be celebrating if it wasn't so sudden and strange. Along with this, I also suddenly had painful and difficult swallowing after the adjustments. So it's all been very alarming...

It's also affected my digestion. But everything still seems to function fine... Lots of tests have come back normal, if it's a weird anxiety/depression manifestation, then so be it.

As I've mentioned countless times just today, my anxiety affects my bowels despite my hypochondria being neurologically fixated.

It does not surprise me that your tests have been negative.
