Contrary to popular belief, your heart does not always beat at a constant rate. In fact its the exact opposite; it will speed up or slow down based on the demand at that moment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Real-time_MRI_-_Thorax.ogv This is a real-time MRI of a heart beating. You can see just how much the timing changes from moment to moment, and Im pretty sure the stopping sensation you mentioned is apparent during part of the video.

I get that "heart stop" feeling too sometimes. It used to worry me until I went to a specialist and they monitored my heart and found that I was having premature atrial contractions (PACs), which are totally harmless. I'm sure you're fine. :)

This is odd but I've noticed that I seem to get palpitations right after I've eaten a large meal.  I feel extremely full and then I'll feel it.

Does this happen to anyone else?  I'm going to ask my cardiologist why that is.  I really hate palpitations.  I just had what felt like two in a row after leaving a restaurant tonight.  Freaked me out!  I didn't think it would stop.

famv5: It could be due to the bodies need to send blood to the stomach to aid in digestion when we eat. Same way that we sometimes feel a rush of blood and a rapid heartbeat when we move suddenly, and why it can be more noticeable after exercise. When our heart needs to move blood hastily, it will beat faster, and that'll make the beats more noticeable.

Yes, I was just reading about that.  It's a very common complaint, apparently, to have them after eating.  I'm trying to research and learn as much as I can to try to ease my mind and understand why it happens.

Thank you for replying so quickly.

Well cardio problems are my biggest fear, so I've spent a lot of time talking to doctors, cardiologists, and people who have experienced problems with their hearts. Much like you do really. I find that the more I know about it, the better I feel.

Problems with my heart is my biggest fear, too.  Do you get palpitations, as well?  It's such a scary feeling.

I'm making a point to learn all I can so I can help to stay calmer and deal with them in a less anxious way.

Oh yeah, I pretty much have them constantly these days. I started to notice them when standing up, or when eating, which was obviously a worry. An ECG and a Stress test later, my mind was very much at ease, but still they persist :P

I've had them on and off for years but just recently I've noticed them much more.  I also feel many times as if one will start but it never does.  That's an unsettling feeling, too.

I just wore a Holter monitor for 24 hours this week and then I go on 6/2 for a stress echo test.  I'll get the results from my cardiologist about a week after that.  I'm hoping that will help to put my mind at ease.    He said I have PVC's and it's nothing to worry about.  I only feel one or two a day at the most, but he heard two of them when I was there that I didn't even feel.  So I wonder how many I am actually having.

He also mentioned that he could give me some medicine that would help to reduce them but not stop them.  I'm holding off on that.

Atleast you got told what yours might be. All I ever got was a 'your heart is fine' by about six different people! I'm very low risk for heart problems anyway though, and I don't think anybody really expected I had them. My doctor said that palpitations are harmless in just about all cases :)
