heart keeps stopping
« on: May 24, 2014, 04:16:51 AM »
Ive been having weird scary heart palpitation. My heart would just stop beating for 1 second and restart again. I would measure my pulse on my wrist and i would have the same heart palp and i cant feel the pulse on my wrist. The nurse practitioner said its anxiety and my ekg was normal. I dont know if it is anxiety because my heart would flutter rather than stop when i have anxiety. Does anyone else have this same issue?

Your heart isn't stopping; it's a short extra beat that feels like your heart is "skipping."  Totally benign, happens to everyone, some people more than others.

I have BOTH issues with anxiety heart...
The heart would seemingly stop (yes, you feel it in your pulse too) sometimes when it "stops" you get a hollow feeling or even a wave of dizziness (I do anyway!) then the heart will beat again forcefully or you'll get 2 quick beats afterwards.  I've gotten it for hours straight every 30 seconds!  (that's what sent ME to the doctor the first time!)  I also get the fluttery kind and that's the one that if I take my pulse I either feel NOTHING at all or it's going fast.  BOTH benign.

Really??  THAT is very interesting, as that stuff happens to me a lot and I am usually "borderline" dehydrated (when they do the urine test and you get the specific gravity reading, it's always in mild dehydration.  (because I NEVER get thirsty and rarely drink) - I am going to put water near me when I can so it will remind me to drink more and see if it helps!

It's anxiety especially if the ekg was normal. Try relaxing and see it get better :)

Dehydration causes all sorts of bad things - even if you're mildly dehydrated.  If you're consistently dehydrated try making a conscious effort for the next 2 weeks to drink plenty of fluids (not soda, or sports drinks or a lot of caffeine) - drink water and/or herbal tea.

I bet you'll be surprised at how quickly you feel better.

I struggle with this too - even thought I know I need to be hydrated I somethings just don't drink enough and then stuff like you describe kick in.  No fun but easy to resolve.

I agree with mollyfin. It is most likely a PVC.

I'm dealing with this exact same thing right now.

I'll just be sitting and suddenly feel my heart skip and make a thud feeling.  Sometimes I have to move around or cough.  I have had this off and on for years but just recently I have scared myself enough to see a cardiologist.

He told me I have PVC's.  It's very common and nothing to be concerned about.  I told him that I was worried my heart would just stop or keep skipping.  He assured me that would not happen.  I mentioned my anxiety and he suggested I stop anything with caffeine.  I have been caffeine free since last Thursday.  I do try to drink a lot of water but there are days I just forget.  I also drink herbal (chamomile) tea some nights.

I usually feel one or two a day but he heard two of them when he listened to my heart and I didn't feel them.  So who knows how many are happening.

Long story short, you are not alone with this.  I know what a scary feeling it is.  Just "try" to relax and know that it's very common and nothing to worry over.
