Having a hard time...
« on: May 23, 2014, 10:12:55 PM »
So for the past 5 months I've been thinking that I had a blood clot, but 2 negative d dimer tests and a clear chest xray later, I'm fine. Sadly, my shortness of breath has been getting worse but only when I'm sitting. I'm convinced that all of my symptoms are from lung cancer...could some thoughts from others

My symptoms: shortness of breath, calf pain, chest pain, back pain and 2 pea sized lumps in my abdomen

With all the blood tests you've gotten lately, did anyone check your vitamin/mineral levels?  Iron, potassium, B vitamins, etc?  Lung cancer with a clear chest xray is beyond unlikely.

I had blood work done in December after 2 ER trips and two different doctors plus the ER doctors said nothing about any like that. What's really scaring me about the chest xray (which was in December) was that I read you can't detect lung cancer with a chest xray. I read that you can only detect it with an ultrasound...that with my where shortness of breath scares me.

My dad had lung cancer and I don't think he ever had an ultrasound, just xrays and CTs.

Sorry, I meant a CT scan. I read that a chest xray doesn't rule out lung cancer only a ct scan. Does anyone know

A family member was diagnosed with lung cancer. These are the common symptoms the doctor told me when I asked about them: persistent coughing, typically with blood. Breathlessness, tiredness, swelling of the face and neck area, and fever. all of them can, and are, a lot more commonly caused by things nowhere near as serious however.

If you've been checked out, then I am sure you're fine. Shortness of breath can be caused by a lot of things. It could be tension in your chest due to anxiety or stress, or a sinus issue, or a throat issue. Even something like indigestion can cause horrible breathlessness that persists as long as the issue does.

I know that shortness of breath is a big sign of anxiety.,.. But I'm worried it's lung cancer. The problem is my doctor won't do an ct scan

Not to scare you but do you know how much radiation a ct scan gives off? A lot.

So save your precious cells for a time you really need it.

I have had your blood clot fears once. And yes xrays could detect cancer. Sometimes not early stages but by your symptoms, if it were cancer it would be seen.
