Thanks for your response.
I think I'm gonna have to go see a Podiatrist. I don't think I could take the anxiety of waiting to see if it grows out, and worrying during that time that if it's more serious, I've let too much time past.
I hope I can get an appointment without a referal from my GP.

I have heard that melanoma under the nail is usually red, brown or black. I have never heard of a case where it has been yellow. And it is usually always a longitudinal line that thickens and becomes darker. It would usually start out as being red or light brown and then eventually get darker over time. But it is a gradual process. It wouldn't just become dark and get bigger over a few nights or weeks.

But like I said, I am no doctor. If it is an infection, then you may need antibiotics. If it is just blood under the nail, it will eventually heal without any treatment. But you shouldn't be worrying about it being a melanoma.

Lililanny - did it start to grow out? What happened with it.  Did you go to the doctor?  I have a dark mark/spot on my middle toe and am worried but trying not to get in a full panic.

Lazer - thanks for the info about your dad and his experience as a podiatrist.  That's comforting to know.  I'm sure he's seen hundreds and hundreds of strange things!

Hi there,I went to my go again and she straight away said it was a blood bruise and that it should grow out. So I'm waiting....
She said its definitely not a melanoma.

Thanks. I'm still waiting for it to grow out though. Don't Google any pics on this because they are misleading. Wait and see if it starts growing out and see your gp in a couple of weeks if not.

It's funny because I have had two little blood blisters on my thumb nail - both times I also started to worry about it being a melanoma. The worrying thing about them is they can take a really long time to grow out - so because they last for so long, it is easy for us to start thinking it is cancer!

But now that I know that they are blood blisters, I cannot possibly worry about them even if I tried.
