I'm due for my baseline colonoscopy (almost 50 y/o) in a few months. Can you tell me what it's like? Any discomfort involved? I know you have to drink that awful stuff, but are you in any pain afterward? THe reason I ask is because I'll need to plan my work schedule around it. Thanks :)
I had absolutely no problem with the prep or the procedure. I actually felt light as a feather being so cleaned out! For me, the anesthesiologist had a hard time finding the vein in my hand to start the IV...that was the only discomfort that I felt before or during the procedure (which I don't remember at all). I woke up feeling great.
My only advice to you would be to resume eating slowly...don't do what I did which was to go out and have a HUGE breakfast immediately after the procedure. After not eating for 2 days (essentially) it was too much for my system and I had terrible gas pains. After a day or two, though, I was good to go - and very relieved that it was all over.
I would not hesitate for a split second to have another colonoscopy. When I recently had bleeding from a hemmorhoid, I did not panic because I had peace of mind from this procedure. It is so worth it.
Please keep us posted!
