I had a Dr. appt. today about stomach problems
« on: May 15, 2014, 07:28:10 PM »
I finally got to meet with a specialist about my "stomach" problems that I've had for the past 6 weeks (lost 10 pounds because of it too). Why do I put that in quotations? Because I've had pain all over my abdomen and my GP couldn't figure out what was causing it so she sent me to a gastro specialist.

He took some blood and decided that he wants to do a colonoscopy... I. am. terrified. I know that it's a simple procedure but the thought of the results is scary but at the same time I want to know what's wrong. I still have about 12 days until the procedure because I told him that I wanted to wait until my husband was back from being out of town from work. He is my rock and I need him here for it.

Normally I would look up possible results but I'm not going to. I'm anxious enough and there's no sense in making it worse.

Judging by what I've seen on this board, that seems to be a pretty common test when it comes to unidentified stomach woes.  I highly doubt it means they expect to find something seriously wrong.

I wouldn't worry about the colonoscopy, my brother has to get them all the time due to his health condition (which is not what I think you have at all).

I don't think it's anything serious either but that's not an area of the body that you hear a lot of diagnoses about. All you hear about is colon cancer and not the other possibilities. You know what I mean? On a plus side, my stomach has been feeling better this last week but I went through with the appointment anyway because I figured that it would give me a better peace of mind, even if he finds nothing because at least that would mean whatever it is/was got better.

I'm not worried about the colonoscopy, just the outcome. My mother-in-law's colonoscopy caused her to now be lactose intolerant. Granted, that was years ago, but that doesn't change what goes through my head.
