I have no appetite
« on: May 11, 2014, 12:18:01 AM »
I haven't had an appetite in nearly a week. I force myself to eat so I don't pass out. I've been to the doctor and my urine test came back fine, now I am just waiting on the blood test results. I don't know what is causing this. I am so worried because I have never experienced this before.
Has anyone else went this long without being hungry? I have sinus problems and some acid reflux problems going on right now. But other than that I feel fine, just no appetite. :(

How are you doing mentally? Depression and anxiety can cause loss of appetite, quite easily.

If you have acid reflux problems, there could be some underlying gastritis (even if you don't feel any stomach pain). This is not to get you anxious or anything, I'm just offering up reasons for your lack of appetite.

I've had a very noticeable lack of appetite (and weight loss) over the past couple months due to chronic gastritis (partly due to reflux), anxiety problems and depression.

I have been stressed out lately due to work and family problems. And my anxiety has been high lately as well.
I had an endoscopy about two months ago which reveled I had gastritis and a hital hernia. I am taking meds for those conditions though.
Unless this is a flare up of the gastritis.
I am in no pain, other than the stomach pain. I haven't had a fever or vomited. I do have nausea though.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

It could still be gastritis, even though you're on medication (PPI's?). Stress and anxiety can make gastritis worse plus chronic gastritis can take a long time (couple months) to heal itself. Stomach pain and nausea are classic gastritis symptoms for me.

Mine has only recently gotten "better", to the point where I finally have some of my appetite back.

Descent, yes it's PPI's. Protonix 40mg. I have been taking them regularly for two months.

Was it a long time before you got your appetite back? Did you lose a lot of weight?

It took quite a while honestly. I suffered from some bad reflux back in February that caused a recurrence in my gastritis.

I lost about 20 pounds (160-140) over the next 3 months. I figure this was mainly due to me only drinking water and avoiding trigger foods and sugars, not necessarily from the gastritis itself. But who knows! I told my doctor and he didn't seem too concerned.

I guess it's good that he wasn't too concerned about it. That is usually a good sign. I have my 10 week follow-up appointment with my GI doctor this week. Maybe he can shed some light on what's going on.
Thanks for the help! :)

Happy to help!  ;D

Honestly I would try eating some yogurt on a regular basis to help control your reflux and heal the gastritis. I supplemented probiotics for roughly 2 months and it helped me out a lot with both of these things, I even no longer have "GERD" or reflux issues, least none that I can notice. Your case might be different though, but it's worth a shot.

I mainly say this because you probably don't wanna be on PPI's for too much longer. I personally don't think they're super healthy when it comes to long term use, but that's me. Just some suggestions, bring it up with your doctor. :)
