Tasting blood frequently
« on: May 10, 2014, 09:16:04 PM »
For probably several months now, I've been experiencing the taste of blood, mostly when i exhale, which comes and goes. still not 100% sure the taste is actually there most of the time because before the phenomenon began, i had developed a strange obsession with staring into my mouth looking for abnormalities.

i just woke up from a nap a few minutes ago and had the taste in my mouth, and when i spit to check for blood (which is something i do several times a day) there was bright red blood in my spit :(! it seems to be all gone now but i can still taste it. i am a light smoker and a more than occasional drinker and my mind is thinking all sorts of horrible things like throat cancer and mouth cancer or lung cancer. honestly terrified to go see a doctor about this because i'm so convinced he's going to give me a death sentence. i keep imaging the blood taste being a bleeding tumor in my throat.

It could be a tooth bleeding.  How are your teeth? If you have a little gingivitis it can cause gum irritation.  It CAN bleed spontaneously.

I wonder if you're having nosebleeds caused by allergies or sinus problems.  If you're tasting blood constantly and spitting it out, it's probably time to see a doctor.  It's likely nothing serious, but worth checking out.

Yep it could be gingivitis.

Looks like someone seconded my opinion - forgot to say that the reason I mentioned this is because I had a tooth that would bleed for no reason.  It was never fixed, it just stopped doing that. But it didn't do it daily or constantly.
