« on: May 10, 2014, 03:33:35 AM »
In the last week after eating really heavy meals I would get short stabbing pain in my left back 1-3 times and then it would be gone. It happened twice in last week and like I said, always after very heavy meals. Anyone hadit befire or kniw what could it be?

It could actually be indigestion. I get pain in my back from it and it is relieved by heartburn meds that my dr prescribed. Keep an eye on it as you may need to see a dr re indigestion but if it persists over the next few days, I would initially suggest trailing some OTC heartburn meds. I'm on prescribed ones due to having a long history of bad heartburn that has had various symptoms. Let us know how you go :)

Maybe trapped gas? Do you eat quickly, too?

If it were on the right back side I'd say to have your gall bladder checked. I was having gall bladder attacks and thought it was muscle spasms.  :traurig001:

UPDATE:

This stabbing pain in left back after meal stopped and since yesterday night I have been getting same type of short stabbing pain in my right upper abdomen. It lasts less than a second and I can't see that it has anything to do with eating. Also, it's not pain in whole area of upper right abdomen, but only one spot hurts when pain comes.

Anyone had similar thing?

There are so many muscles and nerves in those areas.  No fever, vomiting, fainting, etc = you're OK.

Its most likely gas I get it all the time with GERD. When gas gets trapped in your stomach it can push against your rib cage and cause pains in your back and chest. Try to eat a little slower and take smaller bites that should help.

If you were not hypochondriac I would be scared now :P

PC is very rare under 45y old.

@jayor... I am starting to believe also it is gas...I eat very fast, could be because of that...

I get this same sensation when I have gas after eating. The first time I had it, I also freaked out thinking it was something serious, but after a few big burps, it passed. A tab or two of Gas-X will also do the trick. Sometimes if I've just eaten a very large meal, I'll just take the Gas-X afterwards as a prophylactic rather than waiting for the symptoms to appear.
