Bone Cancer?? Ugh
« on: May 07, 2014, 12:35:51 PM »
Ive noticed a few red-ish bruises on my shin for a few days now and last night I was rubbing lotion on my legs and felt a few lumps below my skin to the right on my shin bone. i'm freaking out that it's cancer because at the ER a few months ago I had a slightly elevated calcium level. Someone please help calm me down ;/

I bruise really easily, but never really paid attention to it until my anxiety issues started. One day I noticed a weird purple spot on my bicep. It looked like the start of a bruise, but was like perfectly round & small. It freaked me out! The next day it looked more blue & then the day after that it was brown, then eventually yellow. It was just a bruise -- more than likely from one of my kids poking me in the arm! I felt so silly for getting all worked up. I'm willing to bet that your bruises will turn more brown or yellow soon & then go away. Depending on where the bruise is & how bad it is, they often look red-ish. And if the lumps you're feeling are under the bruises, that has happened to me plenty of times. If the bruise was bad enough, there often appears to be a lump or bump under it. I don't think it's anything to worry about!

It's weird because I haven't done anything to bruise myself and I have the painful lumps :(

Are the lumps under the bruises?

I have bruises all the time that I have no recollection of getting. Sometimes when I think about it, I will vaguely remember doing something & thinking, "Oh, that's going to leave a nice bruise!". And I have little kids & a dog, so it's not uncommon to bruise from something they did & not even realize it. I actually have a bruise (with a slight bump) on my thigh right now -- no clue what I did to get it, but again, vaguely remember doing something to that area.

If you're really worried, can you call your doctor's office & speak to someone? I've called the doctor's office & asked her nurse questions before when I wasn't sure about something.
