Why can't I move on? Need advice
« on: May 06, 2014, 02:01:37 PM »
I've been fixated on this ALS scare for four months and one day now. Every other scare has gone away so fast but not this one. It's gotten to the point where my gp is telling me to see a neuro and not talking to me (her secretary relays all the messages). I've had twitching in both calves nonstop for four months and a sore back. I get tired more easy and it scares me. This is all I have on my mind every second. I need to break the cycle. I've had clean neuro exams three weeks after twitching. Everyone thinks I'm crazy. I'm only 22! If after four months of twitching and no weakness am I ok? Has anyone had twitching like mine? Both legs and occasionally all over? Hands, back, butt, shoulders, etc? Help. Help. Help. Last time I bought I had colon cancer and had a colonoscopy what a waste..

I can't relate to your specific fear as I'm not concerned with things like ALS and MS. I'm worried about scarier things like cancer. I'm 23. I've had multiple weird things that have happened since I hit teenage years. I've had heart palpitations since then, some multiple times a day. I have muscle twitches randomly in my eyelids, butt, chest, legs everywhere. I actually think they are quite interesting but I'm not scared of them. THey are my normal. Sounds like you might have vitamin deficiencies of some type. I would look more into that. You had a clean neurons exam. Let it go. :)

Don't take your GP's response personally. She is referring you on because she feels someone else's input will  be of more benefit than she can provide right  now. She has your best interest  at heart. She is not having the secretary relay messages to you because she does not care about your suffering. She is having the nurse perform this  task so she can treat the other patients she  *also* cares about.

I say this because I know the other side as  a medical provider. That said, I COMPLETELY understand how you feel. As a patient I way overthink and worry about my doctors responses  or  actions. The biggest reason why I ended up getting a psychiatry referral? Well, part of it was that I wasn't getting any better after a few months of treatment with my  family physician. But the MAIN reason was because she's a colleague, works part  time at the same office I'm at and  I worried too  much about what she must be thinking about me....yeah, that's not conducive to anxiety treatment. I still see her for my other medical concerns, but not the anxiety.

Thanks for the replies. I suppose I understand what you mean about both sides.
