Hi, so I am a 44 soon to be 45 year old male.  I recently experienced what I now think was a panic attack and it scared the crap out of me.  I was admitted to the hospital with very high blood pressure (which eventually retuned to normal) and had a million tests done.  Everything has come back perfectly normal.  As a result of this experience, I have given up smoking, drinking and caffeine.  Admittedly, prior tot the attack I was probably drinking too much cheap wine.  But I have a very stressful job and it probably was getting the best of me.  Fast forward one month and I am now experiencing regular bouts with anxiety and they seem to be getting worse... My doctor put me on a beta blocker and 100 mg of sertraline but it hasn't helped.  We are now switching to prozac and he gave me lorazepam for those times when it becomes to severe.  I am not thrilled about taking all these pills because he tells me I am in very good physical health.  Just want to figure out what is going on and hopefully fix it.

Find the correct section of the forum that suits your condition and create a new topic on it. This is just a welcome section. Never really get the same amount of help in this section as you would on the other sections of the forums. So whatever one suits the questions you are asking. Get much better answers.

You've taken a great first step, which is seeing your doctor and getting a clean bill of health!!!  Congratulations on that and also congratulations on quitting the smoking and drinking, both of which are a hard thing to quit!

I sure would not stress about having to take a pill or two to get the anxiety under control!  You wound't give the meds a second thought if they were for diabetes, right?????

Give the meds a while to work and I think you'll find that you will soon be feeling much better!  Good luck to you!!

Hi! Awesome to hear you've gone to a doctor and stopped all negative habits! It's going to be great for you in the long run.
I've been on lexapro for about 8 months now, and i can honestly say that it's changed my life for the better. give them time to work! the fist week and a half starting them was hell...but it's worth it. The doctor wouldn't give you anything he thought would cause greater bad than good.
Good luck and best wishes!
