My friend had 2 ct scans in December, she had been suffering from migraines for 3 years and FINALLY decided to get checked out! (Obviously no health anxiety there!!) haha anyway, both scans showed the white marks and also showed a tumor. She was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, 28 yrs old, 3 children and 6 months to live. They weren't worried about those spots at all! Said they didn't know how long they've been there and really didn't care....

 B-;

I think this post, though well meaning, may scare some people around here who worry about brain tumors and happen to have headaches. I don't mean to sound harsh, but of course they weren't worried about white spots when there was an inoperable, terminal brain tumor to focus on.

Is your friend okay? :(

You probably shouldn't post stories like that in here. I'm sorry for your friend, and if you're having a hard time dealing with it there are other forums to post that in. But in a forum for Hypochondriacs who go into panic attacks over a headache thinking it's cancer, a post like this is really really really hurting things.

On the one hand, yes, a post like that could send people in a tizzy here, BUT on the other hand, part of dealing with health anxiety is learning that things like that DO happen to people. No one gets better by avoiding it. It is a fact of life that sometime, something bad could happen. BUT - that doesn't mean that it will happen to you, and it doesn't make something that you have HA about any more likely to actually be something sinister either.

White spots on the brain is a common finding during MRIs, and I wouldn't be surprised if the neurologist just brushes it right off. There is no "it's either this or this." It could still very well be nothing or be caused by something else totally benign!

You've been given great advice, but just to add my two cents: my neurologist told me before I did an MRI that we may see white spots because I have a "migraine brain".  She also said they see them more in women than men, but that they are not a worry.  You have migraines and are a woman!  So again, completely common to see.

I am a hypochondriac. Point blank. Panic attacks every single day for the last 7 years. Over 1000 er visits. Over 30 ct/MRI scans. I didn't post that to "scare" anyone..... The point of the story I thought was clear...... If there is something wrong, doctors will address it. White spots are "normal" on a lot of people. Sorry if some found my post offensive, it wasn't to scare anyone. It was to point out the white spots that were clearly no cause of concern which is what the writer was worried about.
