Worried about leukemia
« on: April 29, 2014, 09:49:09 PM »
I had a CBC w/diff done 5 weeks ago - I routinely have to have them done every 3 months because I have an autoimmune condition called ITP where my immune system destroys my platelets. So my hematologist has me go for a complete blood count (CBC w/diff) every three months in case my platelets get too low - and I need to be medicated to increase my platelet count.

If there is anyone who SHOULDN'T be worried about leukemia, it's me - right? Because I go for blood work every 3 months? Right...however...

The past 2 weeks I've been experiencing bone pain - mainly in my left arm - forearm and upper arm. But I will get dull achey pain in my thighs as well. So this is driving me crazy thinking it's bone pain caused from leukemia. I know that acute leukemia can come on suddenly - so that's why I'm worried.

I've talked to my hematologist a few months ago when I was diagnosed with ITP - and she made it very clear to me that having this doesn't increase my risk at all for leukemia. I have no family history of leukemia. So why am I so worried? Well, in my mind, what else can be causing this bone pain? It's not muscle pain because it doesn't hurt when I press on the muscle.
