Depression/Anxiety/OCD and CAFFEINE
« on: April 27, 2014, 06:44:40 PM »
I am suffering from Anxiety, OCD and Depression.  I am on meds but small doses.  Does anyone ever feel like they are so down that a coffee or tea will bring them up, then you have it and it hypes you up and then you spiral into a hyped up caffeine induced panic? Then I cant trust my good moods because I end up feeling like "that was a fake good mood" and I'm just going to crash.  Does this make sense?

dude, caffeine is the worst for my anxiety. I t feels good for an hour then I get anxiety like nobodies business. I switched to chamomile tea which is lovely and has a calming effect as well as caffeine free and is cheap

I second what Trishan said! Even on a good day, caffeine always gets my heart racing, which makes my body go into panic mode. I used to be a huge soda junkie, but ever since my anxiety started I haven't been able to have much. I'm much better on days when I don't have any. Chamomile tea is amazing for calming me down, and I drink at least one cup a day.

I go back and forth with the coffee. I'll quit for years because of the panic, and then eventually I go back to it for years with no harmful effects. But a few years later and it hits the anxiety again. But I love coffee. When someone asks how many kids I have I say, "I have two boys and a coffee."

But yes, it absolutely can induce anxiety and panic.

Caffeine calms my head but it used to cause me to freak out.  I take citalopram now and caffeine and ephedrine help me relax and calm my brain so I can focus.
