Cervical Ectropion or cancer?!
« on: April 24, 2014, 07:03:57 PM »
Okay so I went to a gyno who took a quick look at the inside of my vagina, and said I had a Cervical Ectropion, which is basically when the cells from the outside of your womb grow into your cervix, for a while every now and then I get a tiny spot of blood after having sex.
So I started to feel confident that my gyno was right and my worries of cervical cancer started to fade, however.... I just read on Wikipedia that Cervical Ectropion is identical to early cervical cancer and that swabs should be taken to rule out cervical cancer.
So now I'm petrified :( what should I do?! Trust the gyno? Even though no tests were done?! :( I saw him a year ago now

When was the last time you had a pap? If it's been a while I would have one done just to rule anything out and to ease your mind. When I said I had spotting after sex my OB did an endometrial biopsy (I'm 36), I also had an U/S that showed polyps later. Polyps are known for causing lots of problems, especially spotting after sex. Now I'm going to get lap surgery to get them removed. Maybe request an U/S.

In BC we're encouraged to start getting paps as soon as we become sexually active, or start at 18 and continue anually. I don't think you're considered too young! I would talk to your GP or gyno about any concerns as a first step! You should try to trust your gynecologist, at least to help you sleep at night! They would most likely have already suggested a biopsy if they figured it was at all malicious!

The gyno said that it was just the cells of the outside of the cervix growing inside, it was spotted at the first screening then after my gyno I went for another screening and they didn't mention anything about it? I don't know what to think about it :( x

I've been getting them since I was about that age.  I know they no longer say you need them starting at age 18 if you're not sexually active, but once you are, they recommend getting them regularly.  Likewise, if you have a specific concern, they won't NOT do a pap because you're 20.

Ahh yes, you're in England the rules for pap's are different there. They won't do it even if you're having symptoms tho?? If not a pap, then def an U/S.

Do you think I should get it checked then?
The only thing is I did get it looked at a gyno before but he didn't do swabs? I don't know :(

I would call your OB's office and see if you could talk to a nurse to see what they think you should do. Or just make an appt.

I might make an appointment to see my doctor tomorrow to see what they say, what I read online may be wrong, so I think I at least need their advise on what to do :(
The thing is... When the gyno checked it he said not to worry and come back when I'm 25,I was so reassured, but now I've read up on what he said it is, it says bleeding after sex is common, but then I read on one site they can only tell the difference between that and cervical cancer b swabs :(
So confused!
