body temperature
« on: April 23, 2014, 12:06:19 AM »
I have recently gotten into a bad habit of taking my temp even when k don't feel bad. On a daily basis it flucutes from about 98.4 f to 99.4 f is this normal for the body. Its been this way for almost a year. I don't take my temp every day but it comes in cycles where I will take it every day then stop. What is normal for body temp. And what is a low grade fever?

Everyone has a different base temperature.  Mine for instance is the same as yours 98.4-99.4.  Its not unheard of for the body temp to be 96-97 though.  A low grade fever, in my opinion is a temp that remains 99.9-100 for at least a day.

Mines is always around 97ish.  Don't think too much into body temp. Average body temp is just that.....an average.  Some are below some are above... some are right in the middle.

Yeah I have recently played the "Body Temperature Game" (as I like to call it) with myself.  I had a 4 or 5 day run of 99.4 every evening, so, of course, I assumed it MUST be cancer.

After a few days it went back to a more normal 98.6.  For a while I was running at 97.7 all the time, so I guess it fluctuates a lot normally.

I have been forcing myself to do two things.  1.  NOT taking my temperature every freaking day.  2.  Not looking up my symptoms on "Google" under ANY circumstance.

Doing these 2 things helps.  I think you'll be ok if you try doing the same as well.

This was from a previese Google bendge that I read about low grade fever I rarely ever Google but I do need to stop checking all the time. Its just they list low grade fever and never say what that means its so vague it fits right into an anxiety symptom you can create worry about.

The AVERAGE is 98.6 that means people normally are above or below that.  In addition, if you're female, your body temperature is higher the second half of your cycle.  You will see a shift of .4 - .5 degrees on average.
