Constant yellow BMs from both my kids...please help!
« on: April 22, 2014, 05:31:01 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm freaking out.  My four year old and almost two year old have been having yellowish BMs for months now, with little variation.  The doc said this can be normal but I disagree.  They are both picky eaters and their diet consists of a loot of milk and cheese because they are so picky.  Could this have something to do with it?  I'm so scared they have a liver problem!  Please help... :(

Eating a lot of dairy will certainly make your stool lighter. They are young and picky eaters, so it's not surprising! What you eat affects the color of stool, and the fact that they eat a lot of dairy is definitely the cause.

What presses you to disagree with the doctor? Did you ask him any questions to validate his point further? Sometimes that will cause a disagreement if you don't fully understand where he's coming from. Emily is right, especially at such a young age I don't see any liver problems being effected. It would have to be a rather fast developing problem and the doctor would have easily picked up on that. Did the doctor give you any reasoning as to why and how long the problem should last?

Wish you the best.

The doc said this can be normal but I disagree.

I assume you're taking your kids to a qualified pediatrician, not some joker who got a 12-hour certificate on a ship outside of the US Territories.  No offense meant, but I think the doctor probably knows better than you do what can be considered normal.

And really what are the odds of them both developing liver problems at the exact same time with the exact same symptom?
