Carotid artery dissection?
« on: April 21, 2014, 02:12:22 PM »
My latest scare that is ruining my life is the fear that I've torn my carotid artery. I have pain down the left front side of my neck, sharp pains right under my ear and along my jawline, fullness/achiness in my ear along with crackling sounds, and sometimes dull pain in my temple and behind my eye. Also I just feel dizzy and spaced out. The first two nights I had this, I also had pain in my jaw/side of face and lower and upper molars but that has gone away. Although they happen at some point every day, the symptoms are not constant and vary in intensity.

The day before all of this started, I remember having to stretch/extend my neck a lot and I'm worried that's what could have caused a dissection in the artery. That was exactly 6 weeks ago. I'm so scared I'm going to have a stroke or hemorrhage from it. I know 6 weeks is a pretty long time but I'm still so scared all day every day. I did have an ultrasound of my carotid which was clear, but they also told me that's not the best test to find arterial dissections. Given my history, I'm pretty sure my doc won't give me an MRA to ease my mind. Am I just being ridiculous?
