allergies or silent reflux
« on: April 21, 2014, 10:10:34 AM »
It has become a daily guessing game for me.
I have a sore throat almost every day. I've struggled with heartburn and reflux over the last few months, but I'm finding it near impossible to tell which is going on right now because the pollen count is just so high.
Some days I'm sneezing and my throat feels itchy as well as sore--allergies
Some days there's no sneezing or itching, my stomach feels mildly upset and I have a sore throat--feels like reflux.

I'm most likely going to have to consult my doctor, and I'm pretty sure it's off to the gastroenterologist. I'm just trying to not get upset about it. I've already done several months of uphill battle with nexium, antibiotics, nothing that helped. So.....crap.

Allergies can cause reflux. Post-Nasal drip, where excess mucus goes into your stomach, can cause stomach pain and reflux. It's been happening to me lately.

My nostrils are inflamed (according to my Docs) and my nose is slightly stuffed. It happens to a lot of people during this time of the year.

I also was diagnosed with GERD, but after taking probiotics, managed to largely get rid of it. Most regular Doc's don't take probiotics seriously, but they've helped me out a lot.

I heard that allergies can make reflux worse, but had not heard they cause it. Thanks for the tip.

I am putting off calling my doctor because I really don't want to go through the testing and all that just for them to say there's nothing they can do. Not only do they not take probiotics seriously, they prescribe things that seem to cause more damage than good.
