Have you ever been hospitalized due to your hypochondria?
« on: April 20, 2014, 11:12:57 PM »
As you know ( or not ) I have been  dealing with an *almost* baseless, intense fear that my son is mentally handicapped and or autistic.

I know I won't be able to get to the doctor soon enough. my anxiety is sky high and it is making me literally sick. I feel constantly on the verge of a panic attack...
I have been thinking about entering myself in to a hospital... ON Thursday and Friday, it was so bad  I was thinking about ***** and almost started to write a *****  letter. I'm not thinking of ***** anymore, but still.

Has anyone gotten so bad that they had to do this?

I've been close several times, always in relation to a medical crisis of some sort, but fear of hospitals coupled with agoraphobia kept me from seeking help every time.  Wish I had some good advice for you, but I do understand.

Could you go to the ER and see a doctor there as an emergency? I don't know how your health system woeks but here you can see someone urgently at A&E or at a walk in centre and they would be able to refer you to the appropriate place. I'm sorry you are going through this, i do understand.

Hypo get yourself an emergency appointment at your GP or get to the ER asap. Tell them you have had thoughts of *****. They will be able to refer to and give you medicine, help you get into therapy sooner than you need.

There are other things you must be doing in the meantime:

1.) Make sure you're not googling. Your feelings of anxiety will intensify if you are.
2.) Practise proper breathing. In four seconds, out eight seconds. If that's too hard at first, try four and then six, but the exhale must be longer than the inhale.
3.) Find the number of a ***** line for your country/area. Keep the number with you in case the thoughts come back and dial it the second you feel you can't cope. Tell them what's happening and they can give you advice.

Stay strong, your son is healthy, normal, and he needs you.
