Severe pain.. Help anyone?
« on: April 13, 2014, 02:52:36 PM »
I had my contraceptive implant removed 2 weeks ago on Wednesday, and literally since the night after the morning I had it out I have had constant stabbing pain in the right side of my stomach, near my hip and my back aches at the same side. I feel sick, anxious and have no appetite whatsoever!! Can this be connected to the implant removal? I was given microgynon as I wanted to be on the pill instead to control periods but I've stopped taking it cos I blamed that to start with for how awful I feel!! I saw a walk in GP as I was in agony this morning, I thought it was my appendix! She said it's most likely to be 'hormonal' or possibly a cyst. I used to get severe stomach pain after intercourse while on the injection I'm not sure if this is related or not. Anyone had any similar experiences?

I would call your physician and be very detailed about your symptoms and concerns.

Glad to hear you got an appointment so soon. If pain continues, there's nothing wrong with seeking urgent care at your local hospital. You could just be tender to the whole ordeal. I mean I've never had one put in or removed so I wouldn't know... nor would i know how the process takes place. but just call it a day, get some movies and relax.

It's great to hear you've got medical help tomorrow than 3-4-5-6 days from now. Best wishes!

Haha no I wouldn't have expected you to have had one potatoes!! The nurse I saw at 8am this morning (yes, I was sat in hospital at that time on a Sunday!) said that my blood pressure and heart rate was normal, as was my temperature, she said my stomach sounded and felt all healthy.. so do you think that rules out appendicitis? She said if it did worse to ring an ambulance but was happy to let me go home. X

The tests she ran on you wouldn't neccesarily rule out appendicitis, I wouldn't think. I mean not to alarm you, but I'd keep a close eye on that.

I don't think it would correlate with getting your implant removed. however, inflammation of it, as appendicitis would be, could be bad if it were to rupture. Not freaking you out, but you need to know the truth. From what I pulled up from an old school book, it is pretty common in about 5-6% of the population. The pain is more generalized, but near the naval and lower, but it's not exactly pinpointed. I think the appendix is near the right lower side of the body, but the pain would be jumping around.

If pain does get worse then you need to take the nurses advice and see them again. If you can get a ride, save yourself the medical transport bill. Not trying to break your bank but do what you feel is best.

A ruptured appendix isn't something you want to deal with, although it usually happens at a younger age, from what I have witnessed in my local community.

I wouldn't stress out over it. you've got some time to relax then relax. See the doctor tomorrow and mention that stuff then. I suggest just taking it easy today. It's a sunday... hell. rent some movies or lay out on the lawn. If you think that something hurts, more than likely you're going to feel it hurting regardless. best wishes.

She said she felt my stomach and it all felt ok which in her opinion didn't give her any reason to believe it was appendicitis. My temperature was normal too.. I'm in the UK so if I want to call 999 for an ambulance it is 100% free of charge so I am lucky there :) it's 9pm here now and I've been awake since 3am with this :(
