My doctor suggests I see a GI for a sigmoidscope---worried!
« on: April 11, 2014, 12:52:12 PM »
I had bleeding from the stool recently(it looks to be fresh and went to see a doctor for hemorrhoids.  The doctor stated that nothing is wrong and I just have an anal fissure after doing a DRI.  However she suggests I see a GI for a flex sigmoidscopy.  Now I'm worried.  What if the GI finds colon cancer.  I'm so scared...........my doctor dosen't think I have any risk of Cancer through, also felt my belly, nothing wrong.

My other symptom is diarrhea btw, but that may be what I ate.

I am 26 and will be having a flex sig Monday April 21 for the same reason. Mine has been off and one for over a year. No other symptoms. I have had 4 pregnancies in 5 years and 4 vaginal deliveries so hemorrhoids are expect but just ruling out other causes. I'm absolutely terrified, not of the scope but the results. I suffer greatly from health anxiety and hypochondria. What is your bleedi˝g like? Mine was bright red streak on usually the last stool to pass. I also had a really bad episode of rectal bleeding with a stomach flu that caused dirreah. That only lasted about 12 hours.

I would opt for the colonoscopy as it examines the entire colon and you are sedated during the procedure.
