When you feel panic setting in, cup your hands over your mouth and nose and breathe slowly (but not too deeply). This way you will take back in some of the carbon dioxide you've released, which should help you stay calm. A paper bag is better, but in case you don't have one, cupping your hands is good. If you ever do use a paper bag, make sure to put a small hole in the bottom with a pen so that you're still getting some oxygen (otherwise you might pass out).

It's also recommended to only do about 6-12 natural breaths with the paper bag (this is when it's enclosed and a hole hasn't been placed in the bottom, I believe - not sure how it changes for that).
