tetanus? or bartonella???
« on: April 09, 2014, 03:02:04 AM »
So i posted earlier today about a cat scratch. To sum it up, my cat scratched my palm last week and it was really deep and gushing blood. Dr prescribed me augmentin and gave me tetanus shot. Today, the muscle on my palm near the wound started twitching. I googled of course, and it said it could be localized tetanus or bartonella. Is it possible that i can get tetanus or bartonella even though i was vaccinated and taking antibiotics?

I once got a really deep cat bite and my entire hand swelled up.  It was really infected.  My doctor gave me that same antibiotic and I was fine!  I don't know what kind of infection it was, but complications from a cat bite or scratch rarely lead to more than an easily treated infection at worst.

You should always stay updated on tetanus shots, though, just in case of injury!

Not that I can remember, but this was in 2001.  The swelling went down after a couple of days on antibiotics.  I don't think mine hurt, either but my thumb swelled up so much I looked like I was wearing a mitten!  I couldn't bend or move it at all.
