Hard, non-moveable bump on right wrist
« on: April 04, 2014, 12:57:37 PM »
Has anyone ever had a really hard bump suddenly appear on their wrist joint absolutely freaking out, health anxiety has shot out the window :-( been to 2x docs both said it's either a cyst or a nodule and that they would review again in a months time. This has immedietely increased my anxiety to the point I broke down in the doctors and cried as 100% convinced its cancer :-( this then led me to calling in sick the following day to spend my whole morning in a&be trying to get an X-ray, which when a nurse like at my wrist said it really wasn't worth it as it's probably RPI, :-/ my family are trying to reassure me by saying that if the doc thought it was serious they would have sent me for tests. This has completly taken over my life I keep measuring it, I can't sleep, I can't eat basically i'm not functioning at all :-(

Any input would be much appreciated.

Yes, it's called a ganglian cyst (spelling?). I had one last year, it seems to have shrunk though.  Doing a lot of typing makes it flare up, for me.  Don't worry, it is perfectly benign.  Went I went to the doctor she had one too, in the same spot as mine!

Take care :)

My mom had that - it happened overnight really and it was pretty big!  More of a large lump, not a "cyst"   She had finally went to her doctor, forgot what the doctor said, but it was something totally benign and it's gone down now.  It lasted a few months.

My sister in law had that.
My husband gets something like that on his thumb when he is stressed.  Odd

Why would the doctor call you back though if they said they thought it was nothing serious :-(

Cancer doesn't suddenly appear.  It would start very small, it would grow steadily every day, it wouldn't just pop up suddenly.
