I am so glad to see this post still going. I was afraid I had offended you guys. my health anxiety went away yrs ago with getting on medication and taking it for years. I went off my medication last yr and 2 months later started having severe weak spells out of the blue. no one can find out what caused them said no not the medicine. I have since got back on medicine but not working as well and can't get out from under the feeling something is wrong with me. I would love to have test ran but what if they find something? I hate this stinking mess.

Well I for one am glad you MADE this post!  Thanks!

Well, e77, we're up there, I'm in the next decade. Now I do not fear the exit but worry about the way I might get there. Many suffer horribly getting there. Even in our "advanced" society that can be the case.

Often I think that HA presents itself as a cover for fear of the exit. If we can accept that everyone's fate is the same, as you say, we can get a handle on the HA, tell ourself we have today and make the best of it. Not easy. Requires constant attention.

My BIGGEST fear is being told I have incurable cancer and X amount of time left.  I couldn't deal with that.  I so FEAR that!!  Just had that happen to a long time pen pal and it resurrected those fears in me!  I PRAY that I get a heart attack or die in an accident, even get alzheimers (this way I won't REMEMBER I was told I had X amount of time left!)

Sunlover, I agree.  I would much rather just drop dead of a heart attack. That doesn't even scare me.  I'd rather drop dead today than to find out today that I was dying of something painful and degenerative and that I have 2 years, tops, to live. That is beyond horrible.

I agree with greend and sunlover. I would just rather keel over than know I have a certain amount of time left. I watch my mom pass away slowly from a multitude of things (COPD/Emphysema was the main culprit but she also had cancer and heart issues).  My dad is in his 90s with dementia. He's healthy as a horse but half the time doesn't know who people are, what year it is, he cannot care for himself and has 24 hour care. But he is happy. If I'm not worrying about my own health, I am worrying about everyone else's.

This is my daily preoccupation. It feels very good to know I'm not alone.

forever young,

So glad you are still here with us

I really would like to have an older group section.  We are all at an age of things we can relate to.

Health
Extended family caretaking
Young adult children.
The next phase of our marriages.
So much more.

I'm thinking we could start a chat in the Wire as a specific group.

I have been keeping a list of all of your usernames so I remember you.

I can't say I have seen any of you in regular chat, unless I miss you in times I have been in chat.

Let's try to keep this bumped up for more folks to see.

Anyone feel free to pm me anytime.

Daisy, this is a great idea. I wonder if they could partition off a section of HA for us 50+ users? I have never been to chat, and just pop in to the boards on and off. I do find a lot of solace in being able to talk to others my own age. And a section on caregiving (as an only child, I would find this tremendously helpful!) and young adult children (our son is 20) added benefits. Let me know if I can help.

I created a group in the Wire for over 50.    Let's see how it goes.  I'm new at this myself.

FYI in order to join the group on "Wire," you need to register separately from AZ.
