Older age with HA
« on: April 03, 2014, 06:55:18 PM »
Any older folks here over 50 that have HA?
Do you find it increased with age?

I can't say.  'Oh well, I'm young, not likely to happen to me"  , so everything has become a HA issue.
I already struggle with known health issues.

EXACTLY!!!!  Thank you!!!   My only comfort when younger was, "I'm too young for that" now I don't even have that anymore!  However...  I can still "fool" myself.  Many times I'll say, "Oh that's menopause"   ;D

Oh I can relate to both of you. I have symptoms that can't be explained, and I guess I can't attribute those to age, but I do feel my HA has sky rocketed with age.

My last period was April 2011, but you can DEFINITELY still have symptoms of menopause POST menopause.  Sometimes they may even be worse.  Or o you mean your last period was at 46?
I just had a long time pen pal diagnosed with terminal liver cancer - one month to live.  I've been freaking all evening.

Yes, I can definitely relate to this as I am one of the "older" folk around here.  The older I get the worse I feel and I realize the more likely it is a real disease.  All those diseases that we really couldn't get in our 20's, 30's or 40's because we were too young - suddenly I'm at the perfect age for them.  I don't like getting old one bit.  My body is aching so much, how does one know if these aches and pains are normal or not?  My doctor really isn't much help.  He either brushes everything off or scares me halfway to death by sending me for a ct scan or some other horrid scary test.

Maybe we could have an AZ chat or room to talk about things we all can relate to at our age.

Add me to the group of 50+ with health anxiety. I've had HA as long as I can remember, but, like the rest of you, can no longer rely on the "I'm too young" excuse. I still blame a lot on menopause even though I'm 2.5 years post. I do still have hot flashes, which drive me crazy.

I am by far the oldest one here, the closest to all kinds of problems at that exit end.

Want to add that I have worked so hard on myself for years that I now can have days that could be some of the best I ever had. It takes work which can actually be enjoyable. Learn about ourself, work at overcoming fears, worries, expectations, the influence of others. CBT is big, journaling, various exercise and, above all, meditation. There is hope.

I don't think my anxiety would be so high if I didn't feel that I actually have a physical problem that has not been diagnosed. I have been tested extensively and nothing ever shows.

How would all of you handle this situation? I would really love to know.
