breathing problems!
« on: May 08, 2008, 08:41:26 AM »
Hello, This was a symptom I have been trying to ignore and have been failing increasingly.. for about a week now. It at first was "not getting enough air in when I breath"  For no real reason. Now it has gotten to the point where im feeling like that most of the time.. and my legs feel weak ( maybe hyperventilation ) I have actually got occasion pain when I try to take a deep chest breath. Sometimes I feel when I take a deep breath almost no air goes in or when I take a breath I get very little air.. but must or id be unconsciousness lol.. I dont really know what to do.. THis is very scary. And it seems worse at the end of my day then at the start..And sometiems I get this feeling like "I HAVE TO TAKE A BREATH NOW" and odd junts like im about to fall when im sitting still also I sometimes cough and it is productive when I do.. and my nose is almost always stuffed >< sigh.... any ideas anyone?

I find that you are very perceptive to you're body , we HA tend to be that way anyway. You can start freaking yourself out. I mean who really pays so much attention to every little thing, try to relax. If you are very concerned that you cannot breath go to the Dr and get him to check you out.
Do you suffer from allergies or could you maybe be getting a cold? How are you're sinuses? I have a deviated septum and my breathing is horrible, I sometimes cannot breathe through my nose and it feels like I can't take a good breath.

Hope you feel better

Definitely !! I sometimes cannot breathe through my nose and I hyperventilate because I  panic thinking  omg I cant breaaaaaathe..aaaaaahhh.

Also when you do not get a good breath from the nose due to various reason's ( allergies, sinus issues etc) you tend to get a bit dizzy or get headaches because you have to  work harder at getting a breath in through the nose.  You cannot die from it so don't start panicking now that you dont get enough oxygen, you just get light headed or dizzy ..lol

Maybe you could try taking something for you're allergies? Turn on the Ac and just chill :)

I find when I'm anxious, I often have shortness of breath.  I have the same feelings as you, like I can't take in enough air.  I read something online that was pretty helpful to me about deep breathing and shallow breathing.  I will see if I can find it and give you the link.  It basicaly said that when we are anxious we tend to breath with the upper part of our lungs which makes you feel like you aren't getting enough air.  It also had some exercises for deep belly breathing which is the way our bodies breath naturally like when we are asleep.  I find that now when I'm anxious and I get short of breath, I try those deep belly breathing exercises and they really help.

I think i have what you're describing. I'm not sure though.
It sort of feels like i dont have the energy to breathe, my legs feel really weak and unsteady and i feel light headed almost sleepy. I think it's anxiety. I have pains in my head too. Also, when im sitting down talking to someone i have to cough to be able to take a proper deep breath sometimes. It's not nice at all.
Hope you feel better.

So.. i had this same problem just yesterday when i got up i felt like i couldnt get enough air in.I was freaking myself out and then I had to come to work and while sitting up front i put my hands on my heart to see if it was beating ok ( it was). What I did then was throw myself into something and in my case it was setting up charts and paperwork FORCING myself to stop thinking abou the problem and telling myself it is ALL anxiety. I was ok within a half hour and then it didint come back until i was out at dinner after eating a HUGE meal. I again made myself have some fun with my friends.. we had a food fight and in an instant it was gone.

My suggestion is laugh! and do something to stop thinking because our mind is our worst enemy. When you laugh it releases the feel good chemicals into your system and the more you laugh the better you are going to feel. I am sorrry your going through this but feel better and relax.  :P

For dust mite allergies, a good vacuum helps.  Something like a Kirby.  It's able to deep clean the carpets, sofas, mattresses, etc.  You really should clean the mattress once in a while because a lot of dust mites build up over time, especially if you have allergies.  It also helps to have hardwood floors and leather couches.
