Can hypochondria itself cause illnesses?
« on: March 31, 2014, 07:19:14 PM »
I know of IBS but what about more serious ones? Sometimes I worry all this fear about my heart will really cause me to get heart disease, or all this stress and headaches will cause me a brain problem. I had a bladder infection the week I started getting my symptoms, and I've been getting more rashes and pimples than usual, so I also wonder if my stress caused me to be more susceptible to infections.

Other then stress related (IBS, headaches, ect) I think you may be more susceptible to getting a cold or flu because I've heard that you're immune system is weakened when your stressed. You can have heart troubles related to stress (heart attack) but as far as it actually causing cancer or MS or a brain tumor, I'm almost 100% positive stress isn't able to cause those things.

Anxiety can make you more susceptible to infection because it lowers your immune system. For sure.

The mind and body are connectcted.  PProlonged stress wears down your immunity making you more susceptible to colds, acne, allergies, headaches, etc.  Fortunately we can often heal when the anxiety eases.  Be well.
