No I do not remember any specific injury. That concerns me. Surely if it is a bruise or blood blister I would remember the injury that caused it? Meaning it must be melanoma. :(

It's not melanoma. I've had a bruised toenail before and it looked exactly like that. I will try and go back on my ***** and find the picture I took.

Did you notice when you caused the bruise or did it just show up? I didn't stub my toe or anything that I remember.

I can't find any pictures it was too long ago, I dropped a weight on my foot so I did notice but it looked identical to your foot - it could have happened a long time ago and the nail is just growing out enough for you to see it now

OK. Hoping this isn't melanoma. It stills looks the same basically. How long do bruises take to go away? Can bruises grow larger as they grow out?

It takes time for a nail bruising to grow out with the nail.

Thanks for the response. I just don't get it. I've never had anything like this happen that I can remember. I'm terrified of rotting away to Melanoma and my kids watching me die and never seeing or remembering their Daddy again.

utotwel - I have almost the exact same thing right now.  It's got me in a panic.  Same toe as yours.  Only difference is the toenail on that toe, for me, is kind of messed up and ridgy because I had an accident with my foot when I was in my teens and the nail was torn right out.  It healed but grew in funny looking and has been that way ever since.   I have a darkish mark at the cuticle end just like where yours is, and I'm scared.  Did it grow out?  I, too, do not remember hitting or bumping the toe at all.   I hope yours grew out.  :-)
