Can anxiety ALONE be causing these twitches and spasms?
« on: March 29, 2014, 05:35:06 PM »
I don't mean anxiety and medication, or anxiety and exercise. I mean anxiety all by itself. Can anxiety and the fear of a certain disease that caused twitching really cause twitches and spasms by itself?

I sure hope so. I'm not on any medication and I don't exercise daily, yet the spasms are very present.

Are yours single twitches or spasms, or both? And where?

How frequent do y'all's twitches happen? Mine are daily and move around. A couple a day. Yesterday I had a left calf spasm that lasted about 15 seconds until I moved it.

I've had twitches and spasms for over a year now. They used to get me really worried. Mostly in my biceps but I've also had it happen on my calf, eyelid, chest and stomach! Sometimes they only last a few seconds, but at some point it would happen for entire days! I've heard that using heat on the area will help (but without any success myself).

Anxiety alone is perfectly capable of causing twitching. Anxiety causes adrenalin to go shooting through your body; over time, your nerves essentially lock into the fight or flight mode that they're used to experiencing. So they're way more sensitive and way more susceptible to imbalances in your electrolytes, increased anxiety, etc.

Your body is all out of whack when you're anxious. It unbalances so many things, and your nerves are one of its favorite subjects. Think about all the extra chemicals you're producing with your anxiety - adrenalin, cortisol, etc. It's no wonder our muscles sometimes feel a bit out of control.
