Dealing with anxiety in a stressful environment. Advice?
« on: March 26, 2014, 06:51:30 PM »
I have an MRI tomorrow and am really scared about it.

But meanwhile my mom and step-father who I live with are just SCREAMING at eachother over their stupid relationship bull upstairs. It's messing with the meager amount of calm I have, not just hearing it but knowing I'm gonna have to eventually be put in the middle of it in some form or another. I can't block it, I don't own headphones or anything, and my sister wrecked my car. It's starting to make me panic.

Anyone help me?

Hi, sorry to hear that; do you think if you spoke to your Mom and Step Dad about how their yelling stresses you it would help?  Hopefully they will take your feelings into consideration, and speak more civilly toward each other when they are in you presence.  I can empathize with you, there is nothing worse hearing others argue, it stresses me out too.

Take care :)

I'm afraid not. They'd just start using me against eachother, or turn their aggression at me. Neither of them seem to fully understand anxiety beyond you throw pills at it.

Well my step-father left with a suitcase so the fighting has technically stopped but the anxiety is even worse because now it seems like this could become a lasting affair and I'm worn thin as is.

Good luck to you, that's very stressful. Are you in school? If so, see about talking to the school counselor, perhaps having an objective ear can help you de-stress

I'm not in school, unfortunately. This is as objective as it gets for me.
