MRI tomorrow, very scared
« on: March 26, 2014, 03:12:22 PM »
I have these lumps on my right hand my general practitioner and a hand specialist couldn't identify even after blood tests and X-Rays. Tomorrow morning I'm having an MRI and I'm scared to death of what they might find. I'm just, a complete mess about it, and I'm disgusted with myself over how it might not even be a big deal but the bare chance that it might is terrifying me. Just the slim chance is enough to make me freak out. I dunno how I'll get through the day like this.

Any advice or support, please?

I know exactly how you feel, I had my first ever MRI last December. Thankfully, everything looks benign in my case and I was able to get the results the next day. I hope the same for you, keep us updated!

I will. I so hope it's nothing, but it's like I can feel these bumps just crawling beneath my skin and my fingers and wrists ache. It's driving me crazy.

Try not to be nervous. There are so many benign things this could be! Lipomas, cysts, calcium deposits, even stiffened sections of muscle.

Thank you, that means a lot. Doesn't help matters that everyone at my house is shouting and screaming again, and it's really messing with my anxiety, and I can't get away from it.

I have friends online helping me calm down, thank you. That helps me a great deal. And support from people who understand my plight like all of you.

Unfortunately my mother and step-father just fought hard enough that he stormed off with a suitcase, so I have that on top of everything weighting on me.

Most likely, it's a cyst or lipoma. You're going to be okay. Don't be afraid. Your MRI is tomorrow and you will be fine! I had a big lump in my armpit a few years ago and after it was all said and done, and after I had cried and cried thinking I had something fatal, I found out what it was -- auxillary breast tissue. AKA part of my boob. So. The point of that story is to point out that when we get scared, sometimes we can turn something super small into something HUGE and we shouldn't have been afraid in the first place! I'm sure you'll be just fine.  Let us know what happens!

(And also, as someone who came from a home with lots of fighting, here is an internet *hug*-- I know it can make everything so much worse. Just focus on you today and tomorrow, and get some rest and maybe eat a cookie.  :nature-smiley-003:)

Thank you, I certainly hope so. I know there's a good chance it might be nothing but I've never been too rational with such things. I'll be sure to keep everyone up to date.

Thank you, last thing I want is to be worried about my family, and thus our financial situation, falling apart along with my body. It's like everything that can go wrong is going wrong.

But I did eat a cookie, or rather a crunchy peanut-butter granola bar. Internet *hug* back. Thank you for understanding.

Well it was a really unpleasant experience but it's done now. I'm getting the results, Monday.

Glad it's over for you. I would try calling your Drs office tomorrow (especially if there is a nurses line) to see if the results are in. I was able to ask (beg) a nurse to read the findings to me over the phone so I wouldn't have to suffer and wait over the w/e until my OB looked at my results. Good luck!

Yes, do ask for results of being worried.
I was told my last spine mri would be in a week.  I later found out the radiologist read it an hour after the test and they had it that whole time.

I wish test results were on the spot more.

Is it a good or a bad thing that the three masses I mentioned showed up very clearly on the MRI imaging even before they injected that dye into me?

Also, is it weird for that dye to make you nauseous? Not very, but I definitely felt sick for a moment.

I didn't notice any effect from the MRI contrast.  I was just told to drink water to flush it out of my system.
It could be the anxiety over all of this is making you nauseous.  Anxiety does that to me.

The Technician, who was a very nice lady, told me it was probably because she hurried its injection up because she could tell how uncomfortable I was. I had to put all my weight on my right shoulder for TWO HOURS. She mentioned most people couldn't have done that, made me sorta proud.

I feel a bit less like a wimp that this scares me so badly, knowing that my tolerance for discomfort is well above average.
