chest pain and anxiety ?
« on: March 23, 2014, 01:55:52 PM »
A few days ago I had an area on my left side of my chest that was sore when I touched it. Many ppl told me not to obsess with it but I kept poking it and thinking it was related to my heart. The area is now better but now I'm experiencing chest pain. I have never experienced this pain before but I find it odd that I get this after obsessing that I had a heart problem. Can physical symptoms really manifest themselves this way ?!?!?

Yes I think we sooooo obsess on something that we can almost make it hurt , tingle, itch whatever it might be ......I think we must have a super sensitivity to anything we feel.....chest pain cld be msucular from a lot of tension ?

I'm not sure I can help but I do know that you can simply think about a symptom and then start to feel it.  That happens to me many times when I'm Googling something and I start to read the symptoms.  Suddenly, I'll start to feel those symptoms that I did not have before.

Or I'll just think about it and it will start.  My father was in the hospital overnight last week due to chest pains.  It turns out he was fine.  However, that same night, I was worried about him and starting to feel chest pains myself.  Just thinking about it along with the worry and anxiety started those feelings.

I wish I could be more help.  Our minds are very powerful.  I hope you feel better.

Definitely!  I would think if it were heart related the pain wouldn't let up.

I know it's a scary feeling when you get pain in your chest but try to relax.  Try to do something to distract your mind from focusing so much on the feeling and maybe that will help.

Definitely! This was my first symptom of anxiety, been to the ER many times, two cardiologists and no heart problems. I have found that exercise and meditation helps with these symptoms. And because I have had so many tests done, I ignore the symptom.

Yeah kind of think of it, all my symptoms since the beginning disappear when I go to sleep and I have never once woken up in the middle of the night with any symptom. That must say something ???

It absolutely can manifest that way. The mind and body are super powerful & anxiety will attack the things we fear & worry about most.  My heart is one of my biggest HA worries , I've had numerous EKG's, blood tests , x-rays , CT scans , & an echocardiogram and all have checked out fine answer was.... ANXIETY.  Try and do something to take your mind off thinking about it ( easier said than done) , sometimes i find going for a walk & getting fresh air helps. Hope you get some relief soon!

Hi everyone. A little update .... last night I went to sleep feeling good with no chest pain. Also woke up this morning feeling good with no chest pain. I even took a shower and then took a little nap on the couch for 1 hr before getting ready for work also with no bother. Then once I got up and got dressed I am feeling a mild discomfort in my chest. Can the mind really do this ????? OMG

Yep!  I experience that a lot.

I'll have pain in my upper left chest one night, go to sleep and feel great the next morning.  Of course, I'm thinking about it and really analyzing every little pain I feel and lo and behold, it returns the next day.

I can also feel fine but just think about someone else experiencing the pain and bring it on.  Last night as I was getting ready for bed, I felt a few pains in my chest.  I just went to sleep and feel fine today.

I'm glad you are feeling better today, though.  That's a good thing.

Anxiety is horrible.

I'm just so sick and tired of having a different symptom every 2 months. The only relief I get is when I'm about to go to bed. During the day I'm always obssesing :(
