Should I see GP for skin issues?
« on: March 18, 2014, 08:01:32 PM »
So, I'm the avoidant sort of hypochondriac, so this hasn't been a problem before. However, with one thing and another, I've been into the GP three times in the past month for different issues, and I'm wary of becoming That Girl, the one who's always in for something new and ridiculous.

On the other hand, I have two issues which are seriously bothering me:
1. I keep having what I assume are boils (they don't hurt, but otherwise share everything else with boils) pop up on my stretch marks. Logically I know that it's because I need to lose weight and boost my immune system, but at the back of my brain I keep thinking about diabetes, or - god forbid - cancer. The boils have been going away with home treatment, though.

2. I have a patch of slightly itchy, slightly discoloured, weirdly textured skin on my shoulder, which has been there for a few months. It's a fairly big patch (maybe four inches by two inches), and the discoloration is minor, but it's also above what feels like a reoccurring muscle knot (it's fixed by massage, then comes back), and it's freaking me out.

Do you think I need to see my GP ASAP? Would it seem normal if I did? I have no idea what normal looks like anymore.

Not exactly reptilian, but close. How long have you had it? Any word on what might be causing it?

I would go to a dermatologist if possible.
I had a rash that kept popping up. It still will everynow and again and the Dermatologist got a handle on things.

I'm in the UK, so the process is that I go to a GP, who will refer me to a dermatologist if he thinks it's necessary (and 99% of the time, it isn't).
