Louds Pops Upper Back/Neck With Deep Breaths
« on: March 17, 2014, 01:51:16 PM »
Hey,

Does anyone else get this? I have been having this ever since all my weird symptoms started back last year. But I notice that when I take a deep breath, whether sitting or lying down, I will get 1-2 loud pops that sound like they are coming from the back of the neck. These do not hurt or anything and don't bother me as a fearful health problem but was wondering if this stemmed from anxiety. I have neck issues which are on the front of my neck that feel like it gets tight when I exert myself in anything or sit improperly. But I can feel calm, not tense and no neck sensations and will get these loud pops when I take a deep breath. Now when I take my anxiety meds, it will happen less or not as loud as it normally would if I am not on them for a while. But yeah, I've had physical therapy, chiropractic, and even trigger point injections for the neck issue but nothing has done anything with the popping. Also use a traction machine which doesn't do much for that. Muscle relaxants dont work either.

Anyway just curious if this is a norm with this anxiety crap. O_o

Thanks!

I get pops like you are talking about as well.  I to go to chiropractic and have had physical therapy.  One thing that my doctor told me that if things are effected by movement then they are muscular skeletal.  I kind of chalk mine up to being the effect of my muscle tension and anxiety on my joints and body.  Just like the body readjusting itself with certain movements.

Hey

Do you feel that yours happen constantly or you ever have periods where it doesn't happen often? I too felt it was muscle tension but the muscle relaxants never did anything. Clonazepam does though.

Yes - I definitely notice that they happen more often when I am anxious or tense.  The fact that they happen less with Clonazepam does speak to the fact that it is likely anxiety and tension related.

Yeah I assumed that as well. It's just my perception of being "tense" must be off. I think of being tense like if you are about to perform in front of thousands of people or tense from a movie. I guess you can be tense without the adrenaline rush

Personally, I spend so much time tense that I don't know that I notice the tension anymore.  It is as though my perception of tense has been changed and it is now my norm.

I crack all the time. Nothing serious. You can do some neck yoga and it helps.
