Pulmonary embolism/does anyone else get stabbing pains
« on: March 14, 2014, 04:17:09 PM »
Hi, I'm really scared and having a panic attack right now. Almost everyday I get sharp, stabbing pains like a needle around my lungs, heart, ribs, on both sides but mostly the left. It gets worse when I drink coffee. I'm 20. Sometimes they come and go for hours, basically it will hurt for three seconds then go away then come back. Although some days it doesn't happen at all, and some days it only lasts for a few minutes. It's been happening for months now.

Do you think it could be a blood clot in my lungs? Has anyone else been through this? I'm hoping its just stress. I'm going to the doctor.

I get all kinds of pains in my chest and ribs. One of my last E.R. trips was for a fear of P.E., it's one of my top fears. So yes, I experience lots of chest pains, including sharp stabbing ones. I have thought I had a pulmonary embolism several times in 10 years of health anxiety, and even though I'm always so sure I have one, I am always wrong. I can't believe anxiety can create all this stuff, but it truly does. I feel like I have experienced every symptom possible from this stupid health anxiety, but more just keep popping up! Hope you feel better soon!

If you had a PE for months, you wouldn't be here.  You'd also experience trouble breathing and coughing.

Anxiety definitely can and does cause those symptoms.  You could also be having esophageal spasms from the the hot coffee.

Yeah a p.e usually causes like insane shortness of breath and it doesn't usually like chill in your lungs for a while, usually it's lights out when it breaks off into the lungs, or you start to cough up blood not always but usually.
