Email from my neuro after brain scan
« on: March 13, 2014, 03:02:56 AM »
Thought I'd share this email my neuro sent me this morning, might be of interest to some of those worried re MS / Lyme / Wilson's symptoms

(Also to show there ARE good, kind neuros out there)

Dear XXX
Sorry about the mixup-I left a message on the incorrect cellphone apparently. The scan was completely clear.
If it was Wilson's disease, we would definitely have seen copper deposition on the MRI. This would be confirmed on a 24-hour urine test. There is no need to do this given this fact that the scan was normal. We would not normally do an MRI scan as a screening test for Wilson's, given the expense of the MRI.

I really don't feel you have Lyme disease. This would not normally cause facial tics, rather it would cause a chronic meningitis, or peripheral nerve issues related to invasion of blood vessels adjacent to nerves.

I think that most of the symptoms you describe are non-specific-other than the carpal tunnel symptoms. Many of the non-specific neurological symptoms you mention are very common in patients who struggle with anxiety.

Even though there is not a "serious" underlying neurological disorder, or symptoms can be quite disabling, and should not be ignored. It is very important to look at managing and treating the underlying anxiety-which is driving the abnormal neurological firing patterns. Very often just being aware that one needs to address the anxiety is a huge therapeutic step in the right direction.

Warm regards
XXX

This message is very spot on... The moment I finally genuinely accepted the anxiety diagnosis, it was like a huge load was lifted off of my shoulders. I instantly felt much better, not cured, but I felt like I could finally win this battle with the mystery disease causing all my strange symptoms.

So.....maybe I'm a jerk for asking this - but what message did he leave on your answering machine?!?!?!

If you freaked out over it, I think he should've called you in person and admitted the mistake. The email just kinda seems cowardly.

However, he was great in explaining why you "don't have this" and why your symptoms are probably caused by anxiety.
