thyroid cancer?
« on: March 11, 2014, 09:17:20 PM »
For anyone who is familiar with thyroid cancer, how does it present itself?  It's one of my last HA problems, but I don't want to fall into the hole of googling.  Could anyone tell me how it commonly presents itself?

Thyroid cancer is far less common than other thyroid issues like hypo and hyperthyroidism.  But thyroid issues are normally accompanied by tremors, bulging eyes, excessive weight loss or weight gain, irregular bowel movements and irregular periods for females.  It can also cause changes in the hair, skin, and nails.  You may also be hot or cold all the time.  An enlarged neck is another symptom.  Keep in mind all the symptoms I just listed are for thyroid disorders, not cancer.  I have hyperthyroidism and my specialist says thyroid cancer isn't common and even when people get it, it's highly treatable.  You can make an appointment with an endocrinologist and they can check you out.

This is a fear of mine. I am not sure of all the signs but my childhood friend had it 5+ years ago and is just fine today. Highly treatable :)

I know of two people who have had it (and are completely fine.... as weird as it is to say this, it's probably the best cancer you could get... highly treatable)
Both had LARGE lumps on their necks. I'm not talking prodding-and-feeling lumps, i'm talking goiters that were filled with liquid and bulging from the neck.... gross i know, but obviously this is a really hard symptom to miss so if you get it you'll be at the hospital and being treated pretty quick!
